The Chola Empire emerged unexpectedly in the Kaveri floodplains around 850 CE, becoming coastal South India’s first and only dominant empire. Known for their audacious conquests, including raids into Southeast Asia and Sri Lanka, the Cholas built awe-inspiring temples, introduced iconic deities like Nataraja, and popularized Tamil devotional poetry.

Award-winning historian Anirudh Kanisetti brings this world to life—not just kings and queens but merchants, peasants, and warriors. Discover stories of temple feasts, maritime trade, and ordinary lives shaped by the empire’s grandeur. Separating fact from myth, this deeply researched book offers a vivid portal to a thousand years ago and unveils one of human history’s most extraordinary tales.
